26 August 2008, BMW Oracle’s new yacht launched
BMW Oracle Racing’s new 90-foot multihull yacht for the first time touched water on August 24. The carbon fiber boat was lowered into Fidalgo Bay in front of the boat yard where it was constructed on the Anacortes waterfront. Golden Gate Yacht Club board member and BMW Oracle Racing team member, Melinda Erkelens, broke a bottle of Moet et Chandon as she commissioned the new BMW Oracle Racing 90.
Team CEO and Skipper Russell Coutts said they learned a lot and developed a lot of new technology in building this boat and now they are looking forward to testing it on the water.
He added it is going to be an interesting challenge and they will need to build up slowly and carefully to testing its full potential.
Sea trials are going to begin in early September when the fit-out is complete and structural load tests are conducted dockside. The trimaran was designed by Van Peteghem and Lauriot Prevost (VPLP) of France, and one of the most successful skippers in multihull racing, Franck Cammas.
The BMW Oracle Racing construction team was lead by Mark Turner and Tim Smyth and worked in a purpose-built composite yacht construction facility housed in a 100 x 200 foot, three-story shed.
31 August 2008, Norwegian in water boat show in Sandvika
The Norwegian in Water Boat Show (Bater i Sjoen) will be held for the 36th time this year and for the 11th being held at Kadettangen in Sandvika right outside Oslo. From 4 to 7 September there will be several world launches and more than 90 Norwegian releases.
Sandvika Bay is filled up with more than 2 km of docks built for this 4 day show. Thanks to this enhanced on-water display space means visitors can view approximately 600 boats in water.
Among the event’s world launches are two Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 30i and Sun Odyssey 44i, presented by Jeanneau’s Norwegian importer Heitmann Marin. Marex launches it’s world premier Marex 370 Aft Cabin Cruiser Ibiza will introduce its new Ibiza 28 Weekender, the biggest yet.
Erlend Prytz CEO of NORBOAT, stated that Bater i sjoen is the biggest and the most important in-water show in Northern-Europe. During recent years the show has become popular for bigger pleasure boats and sailboats in Norway. This event is also a great opportunity for Norwegian boating industry to reach the market, he added.
25 August 2008, Record number of boats by Premier Yacht Sales
Premier Yacht Sales is planning to display a record number of boats during this year’s Southampton Boat Show, 12th-21st September 2008. Stand Marinas and staff will be ready to answer any questions visitors may have.
This year Premier Yacht Sales will present Elan performance and cruiser yachts will be on display on stand F03. The brand new Elan is the newest addition to the manufacturer’s performance yacht range.

Also there will be the Elan 340 — European Yacht of the Year 2007, as well as Elan 410, both from the performance range. The Elan Impression 344 — European Yacht of the Year 2006, Impression 384, and Impression 434 are among the Impression cruising range. Cranchi motor yachts are the newest addition to Premier Yacht Sales and will be presented at the national boat show for the first time. The stylish range including the Cranchi Zaffiro 36 and the Cranchi Mediterannee 43 HT can be seen in berths 163-169.
Island Packet will reveal Cruising Yachts in berths 308-311, including the brand new IP 460 the ever popular SP Cruiser motor sailer, the IP465 and the flagship, IP485.
And the most anticipated yacht, the new Moody 45 DSe, will be displayed on berth 292. Launched in the UK in March, it was at one of the Premier Road Show events this summer but this will be the first national boat show appearance.
29 August 2008, Morgan Yachts to present Lobster Boat and Fast Commuter
Morgan Yachts will represent two models, the Lobster Boat Morgan 44 and the Fast Commuter Morgan 70, during the Festival International de la Plaisance in Cannes from September 10th to September 15th 2008. In front of the yachts, which will be moored by the Quai Saint Pierre — QSP 106, there will be an area on the quay dedicated to all the guests.
At present the Morgan range is the most extensive in its segment. The two yachts that constitute the peak models of the two categories in which the range is divided are Lobster Boat and Fast Commuter.
The Morgan 44, the first Morgan Lobster Boat, is a yacht which combines the design of the lobster boats which dominated the waters of New England during the 1950’s with the most modern technology in order to create a 44 footer of great effect.
Precious lively-colored fabrics and skilled use of solid wood create an unforgettable atmosphere on board.
